Campsites: Welcoming spontaneous campers

April 1, 2022

Countering spontaneous motorhome tourism - new tool with Parkn'Sleep!

Spontaneous travel by camper is currently very popular. Many campers want to be flexible - but legal and spontaneously available pitches are usually hard to find. Campsites that only work with reservation systems are unable to cater for the ever-growing target group. Although in practice there are often 2-3 empty pitch es, even during the high season.

Unexpected cancellations and a small remaining stock of places for security reasons are normal and the need to rent out the last place efficiently in the high season is not always given. It is better to take care of the existing reservations. Until now, there have been no tools for renting out remaining pitches to spontaneous campers.

The Swiss start-up "Parkn'Sleep" has developed a solution to do just that: Campers from all over Europe can see available pitches on the "Parkn'Sleep" web application , drive to them spontaneously and check in and pay independently on site using QR signage.

Parkn'Sleep was successfully launched in Switzerland in 2021 and received the highest innovation award in Swiss tourism in the fall. The concept allows visitor flows in the region to be managed and free-standing campers to be assessed as "real" guests.

Municipalities, campsites and tourist regions receive a useful tool that reflects modern motorhome tourism. Parkn'Sleep is now ready for the European market: providers can register and use the system free of charge - without setup costs, monthly fees or contract periods.

How Parkn'Sleep works on campsites:

Campsite operators from all over Europe can advertise their sites at www.parknsleep.app and then receive the signage with an individual QR code free of charge.

The registration and commissioning is also free of charge and takes around 15 minutes. Costs are only incurred at check-in, Parkn'Sleep charges a 15% service fee (incl. payment fee) on the overnight costs of the camper.

If the advertisement is listed, arriving campers can check in at pitches day and night independently. Even campers who are not yet familiar with the web app can easily find their way around and check in using the signs.

A modern overview offers the operator automated management of his spaces. Settings and changes can be made in real time. For example, availability can be adjusted or pitches can be paused seasonally or on a daily basis.

Seats are indicated with availability in the map search and can be checked in on site with a swipe.

Possible applications at campsites:

  • Transit spaces (24h/48h spaces)
  • Early arrival / late departure
  • Seasonal residual space rental (low season)
  • Winter camping with reduced infrastructure (off-season)
  • Spaces with parking barriers
